Welcome to the Q2 issue of the FreeBSD Journal.

This issue focuses on improving software quality. The articles look at several ways that this work shows up across the FreeBSD ecosystem, from debugging memory safety bugs with CHERI on FreeBSD, to interviews with people working on different parts of the system and community.

You’ll also find Michael Lucas’ always-engaging We Get Letters, Tom Jones’ interview with Harald Eilertsen, an article on the European Cyber Resilience Act and SBOMs, and the Foundation’s regular updates and events calendar.

This issue also marks an important transition for the Journal. After serving as editor since the FreeBSD Journal began in 2014, James Maurer is retiring from the role. James has helped shape the Journal from its earliest days, guiding its voice, consistency, and quality for more than a decade. We are deeply grateful for his incredible work, steady leadership, and lasting contribution to the FreeBSD community.

At the same time, we are pleased to welcome Matt Slaybaugh to the helm. Matt brings many years of experience in technical publishing, developing his craft at publishers such as Ziff-Davis and the ACM, organizations including NYU and the United Nations, and many startups along the way. His background, editorial experience, and understanding of technical audiences make him a strong fit for the next chapter of the FreeBSD Journal.

Please join us in thanking James for everything he has done for the Journal and in welcoming Matt to the FreeBSD community.

We hope you enjoy the issue.

As always, we love to hear from readers. If you have feedback, suggestions for topics for a future article, or are interested in writing an article, please email us at info@freebsdjournal.com.
