Session: Friday, November 7, 9:10am-10:00am
Speakers: Ian Evans, CEO, Karios
FreeBSD‑Powered Stack – Leverages FreeBSD’s proven networking performance, robust ZFS storage, and mature kernel features to deliver a secure, high‑throughput foundation for virtual workloads.
Simplified Virtualization Layer – Removes the complexity of traditional hypervisor stacks; Karios.ai exposes a single, lightweight API that abstracts compute, storage, and networking into one coherent fabric.
Power & Cooling Intelligence – Real‑time power monitoring coupled with liquid‑cooling telemetry (immersion and closed‑loop) lets operators optimize energy use and thermal headroom without intrusive hardware changes.
Built‑in Security Compliance – Automatic SCAP checks ensure that every node meets industry security baselines, reducing the burden on DevOps and compliance teams.
Speaker Bio: Ian has spent over 15 years pushing the boundaries of FreeBSD and open-source innovation. As Founder and CTO of Karios.ai, he created a new hyper-converged paradigm integrating power, cooling, and security monitoring directly into the FreeBSD stack—adopted in early cloud-edge pilots for low-latency workloads.
Previously, Ian served as Principal Open Source Solutions Architect at Red Hat, where he specialized in OpenStack and OpenShift optimization and led large-scale automation migrations to Ansible Tower. At World Wide Technology (WWT), he guided Fortune 500 cloud migrations and helped shape the design philosophy behind Karios.ai.
Earlier in his career, as DMTS at Verizon, Ian pioneered the Secure Cloud Interconnect (SCI) program and helped build Verizon’s first Kubernetes clusters, earning recognition as Impact Player of the Year. He also served as an AWS Technical Account Manager, advising top enterprise customers on architecture, migration, and cloud strategy.
What Attendees Will Gain from His Keynote
- A deep dive into how FreeBSD can serve as the heart of a next‑generation hyper‑converged platform.
- Practical insights on integrating power and liquid‑cooling telemetry into production workloads without sacrificing performance.
- An overview of Karios.ai’s built‑in SCAP compliance, demonstrating how security checks can be baked into the infrastructure stack from day one.
- The power of FreeBSD vs Linux and the advantages it provides for the Karios HCI platform.
