FreeBSD Well Prepared for AMD EPYC™ 7003 Series Processors

The FreeBSD Foundation is pleased to announce that FreeBSD is one of the platforms that will work “out of the box” on the 3rd Generation AMD EPYC™ Processors. Thanks to direct collaboration with AMD, the FreeBSD Foundation was able to ensure a seamless integration.

“Early access allowed us to ensure that FreeBSD is ready to run on this platform,” said Ed Maste, FreeBSD Foundation Sr. Director of Technology. “Our early experience in the FreeBSD Foundation Lab has shown impressive performance and we eagerly anticipate similar results as FreeBSD users deploy 3rd Gen AMD EPYC processor-based systems.”

For years now, there has been a strong effort towards making FreeBSD an out of the box solution on key workloads. AMD aided in this effort by coming to the Foundation early in the process.  “We’re thrilled that AMD reached out to us prior to launch, said Deb Goodkin, FreeBSD Foundation Executive Director. “Having the opportunity to work out any issues before it hits the market is a nod to the level at which FreeBSD is able to compete with other open source operating systems.”
