January 25, 2007
The FreeBSD Foundation is pleased to present its December newsletter. Please take a few minutes to read what we have been up to for the last 6 months.
We are working to upgrade the project’s network testbed with 10Gigabit interconnects. Cisco has generously donated a 10Gigabit switch and we have received network adapters from Myricom, Neterion, Intel, and Chelsio. Adapters from other vendors are being solicited so that we can do interoperability testing.
The FreeBSD Foundation has negotiated a joint technology development agreement with NLNet and the University of Zagreb to develop virtualized network stack support for FreeBSD. With the generous sponsorship of NLNet, the FreeBSD Foundation has contracted Marko Zec at the University of Zagreb with the goal of producing a prototype implementation on FreeBSD 7-CURRENT in early 2007.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to the FreeBSD Foundation in 2006! We raised a total of $100,714. Plus, we also received commitments totalling $45,000 towards this fundraiser. The funds will be received in 2007, so these donations will count towards our 2007 fundraising numbers. Once we have created our 2007 budget, we will create a new 2007 fundraising meter. We’ve already received over $1200 in donations for 2007! Please consider donating for 2007 now, to help us meet our budget for this year.
The Foundation is now accepting travel grant applications for AsiaBSDCon. If you are a FreeBSD developer and need help with travel expenses, please fill out and submit a Travel Grant Request Form by January 26, 2007. Applications will not be accepted after this date.
Though we would like to support everyone who applies, priority will be given to FreeBSD developers speaking at the conference. Due to constrained resources, we would appreciate if developers could look to their employers first for sponsorship or cost-splitting.
We are in the process of adding a grant recipient page to our website.
The Foundation is continuing to provide Java binaries with the latest updates from Sun.
